Things we've learned about the Clever SSO service.
Clever offers more than one method for logging into Neptune Navigate and most folks, understandably, put them all under the "Clever SSO" umbrella. However, each method is distinct and you'll need to get clarification from customers regarding which method they intend to us.
When in question, point the customers to these Clever help docs:
Clever SSO:
https://support.clever.com/hc/s/articles/205546348?language=en_US
This is the familiar process of facilitating SSO by exchanging data with a traditional Identity Provider.
Clever Passwords:
https://support.clever.com/hc/s/articles/205889038?language=en_US
This method allows customers to set global values for the username and password. When a user clicks on the Neptune Navigate icon in the Clever portal, the user is directed to the Neptune Navigate login page where Clever auto-populates the username/password combination.
NOTE: By default, Neptune Navigate usually enables a "force password change" for all non-students upon initial login. Of course, if the user's password in Clever Passwords does not match the password established in Navigate, the authentication attempt will fail. To avoid this, there are two possible solutions:
- Disable "force password change" in the Organizations editor in Neptune Navigate.
- Have the users log into Neptune Navigate manually and change their password to the value that Clever will be sending.
Clever Plug-in for Chrome:

We believe this functions as somewhat of a "password manager," retrieving the username/password combination from Clever and auto-populating the Neptune Navigate login screen.
